Eat Your CAD

Eat your CAD is a recently-launched UK website dedicated to CAD. It is edited by Karen Fugle (CAD manager at the London office of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates), with significant inputs from Nigel Davies (CAD consultant) and American Shawn Foster (engineering/CADD applications manager for the HNTB companies, Kansas City, Missouri). But the site’s material is not confined to these contributors.

Although the site was only launched last month, the team has already created a substantial archive of useful articles and links to articles from a variety of sources. Searching the site for information about extranets, for example, yields some strong opinions ("extranets equal extrawork") and advice on selecting a vendor from Nigel. Extranets also crop up in his articles on CAD File formats (for example: Is issuing drawings a bind? Part II: Collaboration: sleeping with the enemy and When is a CAD file not a CAD file?).     I have logged in several times to Eat Your Cad and when ever I click on a button I receive “Nothing to see here”, I can not get to any useful information. Is there something that I need to do. I used to go to that site many times but alas no longer able.

    1. It looks like it was hacked last week (just seen a tweet from the apparent hacker). I have tweeted to Nigel Davies about it too (Update: while Nigel is no longer directly involved with EYC he is trying to help the team get it back up and running again.)

    Unfortunately Eat Your CAD has now been officially archived. I was originally hoping to leave it live, despite not having added new content for several years now. If readers are looking for historic content they are welcome to contact me and I will be glad to help if I can.

    Hi Karen (if you’re still checking this site),

    I am sorry to hear the site is gone – I had occasionally opened Eat Your CAD (and the really old Snuttar in English), but hadn’t been on in a while.
    I have, i guess most of the uStn 101 PDF files and some “working with autoCAD”, etc. – any chance of getting the whole set of PDF files you once had available for download?
