To paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies, Well, he would, wouldn’t he! Following my recent blog post about his move to Netherlands-based SharePoint reseller Cadac Organice, Gert-Jan de Kieviet (right) talked to me about his move from Sword-CTSpace and his somewhat controversial view that Microsoft SharePoint is the future of construction collaboration. BuildOnline and CTSpace In the mid-2000s, …

Former CTSpace MD now at CadacOrganice
Over the past few years, I have seen numerous employees move from one construction collaboration technology vendor to another. This ‘musical chairs’ process has been common among sales people – I’m still in contact with some individuals who have worked for three or more providers – but it also occasionally extends to directors. The latest …

AEC Docuflow selling Organice in Australia
Organice, the AEC-oriented toolkit (from Netherlands-based Cadac), that helps construction organisations make better use of Microsoft SharePoint for collaboration purposes now has an Australian reseller. Sydney-based AEC Docuflow was established last year by Nathan Harman and Steve Nelson to offer document management solutions to small to mid-size architecture, engineering and construction businesses, and uses the Organice suite …

Show us the numbers, Cadac
I have railed before (Give us the figures, Cadweb!) about construction collaboration technology vendors trumpeting how much their business has grown without actually giving us any figures to substantiate their hype. Latest offender is Netherlands-based Cadac who developed Organice, a document management solution based on Microsoft’s SharePoint system (see post). A Cadac Organice BV news …

Return to the email argument
More than three years ago, I first wrote (The email argument) about the challenge of managing project-related email. Or, rather, I pointed out that some ‘extranet’ systems, such as [my employer] BIW’s, discourage use of email so that project communications are managed within a self-contained and easily auditable secure repository (see also The email argument …

AECbytes writes on collaboration
Just a quick note for those interested in developments in the US collaboration market: AECbytes Lachmi Khemlani has just written about Collaboration, Project Management, and Project Information Management Solutions in AEC. The article looks at Newforma, Attolist and Cadac’s SharePoint-based Organice. Of the three, only Attolist is a genuine Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering.

More SharePoint for AEC
Earlier this week, a Microsoft employee frankly admitted to me that SharePoint was not particularly easy to implement for extranet-type collaboration in the typical geographically distributed structure of a construction project team. As a result, Microsoft has tended to be reliant upon partners such as the Sword Group’s C2Share (see post) to expand its SharePoint footprint in …
