At first I was afraid, I was petrified …

I have just read Mel Starr ‘s blog and followed the link to Rob Annable’s no2self blog to see the full lyrics for … THE ARCHITECT SONG (to the tune of I Will Survive) At first I was afraid, I was petrified thinking I could not design what you had specified But then I …

ICT, sustainability and contracts

I met Building sustainability blogger Phil Clark last week for a coffee, and he was good enough to talk about our conversation on Zerochampion. As well as talking about sustainability, the potential contribution of collaboration technologies and the environmental downsides of ICT, we also talked more generally about collaborative working and contracts. Being involved in …

New kids on the blog

I see that Aconex joint MDs Rob Phillpot and Leigh Jasper have just started a blog, Built on Collaboration, in which they will “discuss some good industry practices and, along the way, share some … stories about running a business”. I look forward to reading future posts. Welcome to the blogosphere, lads!

Extranet Evolution: two years old

The Extranet Evolution blog is now just over two years old. Just over a year ago, I noted that June 2006 had been my first year’s peak month with 2,069 page-loads by 1,049 unique visitors (totals marginally exceeded in September 2006: 2,122 and 1,282 respectively). Over the past year, traffic has risen further – every month …

IT and sustainable construction – 2

While I was writing yesterday’s post, an email discussion about the Draft Strategy had begun among Constructing Excellence ‘s Collaborative Working Champions (of which I am one of the latest tranche). I volunteered to start work on a paper to form part of a collective response to the consultation document (we have until 30 November …

SaaS: the business solution

I have been reviewing quite a lot of material recently regarding Software-as-a-Service (SaaS): First, the pros and cons of SaaS as it applies in the construction collaboration market have been debated by NCCTP members for an article to be published in a supplement to UK trade magazine “Building” next week. Second, I received an email …

DWF v. PDF – an Autodesk interview

In my book, I discussed Adobe and Autodesk’s development of different file formats to manage design data (it’s a topic I have since returned to – here for instance). I have just found an interesting interview on the Novedge blog with Autodesk’s Mary Hope McQuiston regarding the DWF format – a similar interview having previously been undertaken with Adobe’s …

Une étude intéressante…

Une étude intéressante sur le marché anglais du travail collaboratif – No, I haven’t decided to blog in French, but I found a French blogger interested in what is happening in the UK construction collaboration market. My French is poor but (with a little help from the Babel Fish website translator) I think the writer, …

CJ blog renaissance

According to a comment on my 9 February post, First Blogs, then splogs, now flogs (and CJ), no fewer than six blogs are to be launched this week at UK trade journal Contract Journal. (If you want lots of video of construction equipment in action and other construction-related stuff, the blog of commenter, James Stafford, has loads of …

Google spreadsheets (2)

Last June, I blogged about Google’s new web-based spreadsheet application but bemoaned the lack of graphs, etc. The gap has been filled, at least partially. Docs and Spreadsheets now has a charting function – a bit rudimentary compared to Microsoft Excel, but a step forward nonetheless. Tags: Google spreadsheet charts
