Sword subsidiaries Cimage and CTSpace to merge

Just over 15 months ago, following the acquisition of CTSpace by the Sword Group, I briefly mentioned existing Sword subsidiary and UK-based EDMS vendor Cimage (see CTSpace put to the Sword). Last month, Sword announced that Cimage and CTSpace would become a merged entity, Sword CTSpace. MD of Sword CTSpace and operations director for Sword …

A new blog, a new direction

Sharp-eyed visitors to this blog may have noticed a new RSS feed in the side-bar – from pwcom. This is my new blog focused on PR, marketing and Web 2.0, with a strong bias towards how these are used in the architecture, engineering, construction and property sectors. I have discussed Web 2.0 a lot in …

MJ Medical: not unique

As well as retail, another UK market sector that is helping construction businesses survive the ravages of the current recession is the healthcare sector, buoyed – like education – by government investment. However, I don’t see the latest entrant to the design collaboration market place as a major player (at least not yet). A news …

AECbytes writes on collaboration

Just a quick note for those interested in developments in the US collaboration market: AECbytes Lachmi Khemlani has just written about Collaboration, Project Management, and Project Information Management Solutions in AEC. The article looks at Newforma, Attolist and Cadac’s SharePoint-based Organice. Of the three, only Attolist is a genuine Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering.

Geographic information in a web-based world

I am spending the afternoon at a CASA conference (sponsored by the AGI) at University College London talking about use of geographic information, which promises lots of talk about mash-ups, re-use of data. 1.45pm: First up, Richard Milton demonstrating GMapCreator and MapTube – applications for publishing data to Google Maps, showing, for example, maps relating …

Reviewing 2008

Just as I did last year (see Reviewing 2007), I have been looking back at my five predictions for 2008 (see one, two, three, four and five for more detail). 1. Further polarisation of the UK construction collaboration marketplace. I do think the UK market has polarised a little further, though the trend may have …

Running the AEC IT function

There is an interesting article in the latest AECbytes in which Linda Letourneau, director of technology at US-based planning and design practice LandDesign, describes how she achieved a turnaround in user satisfaction in her firm after implementing better technologies and changing the focus of its IT group. Her starting point was to recognise that the …

Aconex reports…

Australia-based construction collaboration Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) vendor Aconex has published its financial results for the year ending 30 June 2008. As with most annual reports and accounts, there is a lot of dry legal/accounting talk to wade through (thankfully, I am no accountant!), but for me the key points are: Aconex revenues and order book are …
