SaaS penetration to reach 25% by 2011

ASPnews.com reports the latest projections for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) growth from Gartner, who say SaaS will constitute 25 percent of new business software delivered by 2011, compared to just five percent in 2005. The trend is upward, says Gartner, because: SaaS is beginning to solve business complexity problems. SaaS is more affordable from operating budgets whereas …

CJ Construction Industry Awards 2006

I have just skimmed through a supplement to this week’s UK trade magazine Contract Journal covering its annual awards event. Working in IT, I turned first to the IT Award page. This year’s winner was the BAA T5 project at London Heathrow Airport, rewarded for its 3D single model environment. Shortlisted in the same category …

Construction Computing Awards 2006

Nominations closed for the Construction Computing Awards (see previous post) on 15 September and voting on the final shortlists has now commenced. UK collaboration vendors are well represented among the finalists: 4Projects and BuildOnline both feature in three categories, as do Sarcophagus (two related to its collaboration system, the other for Etenderer). BIW Technologies features in five …

Dochosting Data Management

After discovering Dochosting via Contract Journal (see previous post), I have tried to find out more about the company. The Dochosting website is, to say the least, sketchy on details of the company, giving only telephone and fax numbers (not even an email address!); no postal address or contact names either. From the STD code of …

SaaS traction in the AEC industry

Back in June (see post), I discussed some provocative claims (in Randall Newton’s AECnews) from US vendor Newforma about ASP traction in the AEC sector. In a comment at the time, I expressed the hope that US providers would back up my own UK-based experiences. Today (in Autodesk Takes Exception to Newforma’s ‘No ASP Traction …

NCCTP research featured in “Building” magazine

The latest publication to feature the NCCTP’s recently published research report "Proving Collaboration Pays" (see previous post) was the leading UK weekly, Building (25 August 2006 issue). The article, How good are extranets?, by Sonia Soltani, doesn’t just focus on the report though; it gives the views of numerous users – from Bouygues UK, Gleeds, …

SaaS adoption accelerating

An ASPnews.com article by Michael Hickins quotes new research from the Aberdeen Group showing that companies of all sizes have begun adopting software-as-a-service (SaaS) in order to get solutions implemented more quickly, achieve faster ROI and lower their IT costs, and “It’s no longer a minority of companies” – making 2006 the first year that …

Podcasts

By coincidence, I found two bloggers doing their first podcasts on Friday. QSNews editor Phil Clark has done one on that most basic form of communication: speaking (click here), and SaaS pundit Philip Wainewright’s first podcast, Why Business is driving SaaS adoption, is here.

Tagging for Live Writer

Many thanks to Jimmy Bergmark for alerting me to a plug-in that overcomes the tagging gap in Microsoft Live Writer (see comments on  yesterday’s post). It makes Live Writer even more attractive.
