What next for Trimble’s SaaS platforms?

Viewpoint for Projects user growth

Will Trimble’s US$1.2bn acquisition of Viewpoint be managed as a ‘gradual convergence’ or a ‘rapid managed migration’? Two days after Trimble’s announcement of its US$1.2bn acquisition of Viewpoint, I attended a Viewpoint UK ‘roadshow’ event in London yesterday (25 April 2018). The presenters carefully avoided saying too much about the deal, but in talking to …

US-based Trimble announced yesterday (23 April 2018) that it is to acquire privately-held Portland, Oregon-based construction ERP and SaaS collaboration vendor Viewpoint from Bain Capital in an all-cash transaction valued …

Newforma gets connected

Jim Forester (Newforma)

Silos (both company and IT) have long inhibited collaboration in construction. Newforma’s ‘Connector’ strategy seeks to break them down. I recently wrote (16 August: Newforma now playing cloud catch-up?) about Newforma’s Cloud Services initiative, which has seen the vendor expand its extranet-type capabilities, complementing its original core on-premise, behind-the-firewall application. I spoke last Thursday to Newforma CEO …

Mostly, ExtranetEvolution focuses on Software-as-a-Service solutions and related applications in the architecture, engineering and construction sector. However, I do keep an eye on vendors whose software solutions occasionally either compete …

Aconex UK growth makes Conject deal look timely

uk vendor revenues 01Jun2016

Latest results from Aconex (UK) Ltd suggest the March 2016  Conject acquisition was timely, with the Australian giant’s European operation lagging behind regional rivals. I have monitored the performance of Aconex’s UK-based operation, Aconex (UK) Ltd for some years (since at least 2007). The Melbourne, Australia-based parent company has made great strides to become the dominant …

Viewpoint Construction Software‘s 2016 UK customer summit reconvened at London’s Grange Tower Bridge Hotel again this week, and, with more delegates (c. 150) from more companies (55) than last year, now looks to be outgrowing the venue. Viewpoint restructured and growing

Manolis Kotzabasakis, Viewpoint CEO

Viewpoint CEO Manolis Kotzabasakis says construction needs to change, and believes his company is well-placed to lead industry adoption of SaaS-based ‘field to back office information on the go’. Following Aconex’s recent acquisition of SaaS construction collaboration rival Conject, there was – as usual – some debate about the implications of the deal for other vendors …
