BLL 2012 launched

Nearly four years ago, I first had a look at BuildLondonLive, and – after a two-year hiatius – its champion, UK-based construction collaboration technology vendor Asite, is organising another 48-hour virtual design collaboration competition next month, 21-23 May 2012, this year hosted at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. As before, the event showcases new …

Guest post by Nathan Doughty: BIM-as-a-Service

Nathan Doughty

(My blog post about disruptive ideas stimulated Nathan Doughty, chief operating officer of London-based construction collaboration technology vendor Asite to contact me with his own views, which I suggested he write as a guest post on ExtranetEvolution.com.) Paul’s recent blog post about disruptive ideas in the construction collaboration space prompted some contemplation for me – …

It’s been about collaboration all along

I have been a member of the UK change organisation Constructing Excellence‘s Collaborative Working Champions for some years. My interest in this area started in the 1990s when I worked in what was then Tarmac (now Carillion) Professional Services and my line manager was Shonagh Hay. She was a member of the  Reading Construction Forum …

INCITE = ThinkProject!

Just last week, I was discussing the state of the Australian AEC collaboration market. Following that conversation, I decided to have a look at what other domestic players in that market had to offer. Putting Aconex into context, I have already mentioned QA Software in the past (see 4 July 2006 post), so I examined what used to be …

Latest viewers

I’ve noticed a couple of press announcements about new file viewers recently. Nemetschek has released a universal viewing tool for IFCs (industry foundation classes), extending the firm’s support for IFCs (see Nemetschek news release). Informative Graphics Corporation (IGC) has announced the latest release of its MYRIAD 3D/2D CAD viewer. Tweet

A look at BuildingSMART

After my day at the BuildingSMART conference in London last month, it was interesting to read AECcafe.com‘s fairly detailed look at what the BuildingSMART Alliance is doing. It’s also quite topical as there have been a few news stories about software vendors (eg: Nemetschek, Bentley) achieving IFC compliance. Tweet

ex-Graphisoft execs establish Vico

As previously mentioned, the BIW office in Woking is in a building which also houses software business Graphisoft – no, make that “housed”. Graphisoft… some of the firm’s executives have now set up a new business, Vico Software, having acquired the Graphisoft Virtual Construction product line following the December 2006 acquisition of Graphisoft by Nemetschek. Now, 21-25 …
