Aconex joins NCCTP

Australian-founded Aconex has become the latest construction collaboration technology provider to join the UK trade body, the NCCTP, according to a brief announcement on the latter’s website. The site also now features a short Aconex case study, but it concerns a project undertaken in Australia not in the UK. Given that Aconex has been active …

AEC document management from Version One

Thanks to BuildingTalk, I found a release on Version One, a UK-based document management and imaging software company promoting the utopian ideal of the ‘paperless office’. Its main product appears to be an internal DM solution, but it also offers e-commerce fax, email and funds transfer solutions, and document authorisation. Some AEC suppliers are listed …

Autodesk ROI research revisited

[Apologies: this is a long-than-usual post] A week after the Construction Computing Show in London, I finally got round to flicking through a copy of Construction Computing magazine that I picked up there. It incorporates an issue of CAD User magazine wherein I saw a now familiar face: Mark Ellis, business manager of Autodesk Collaboration …

NCCTP Conference, London – impressions

Having been involved in the organisation of today’s NCCTP conference in central London, I am slightly biassed, but I think it was the best event of its kind that I have been to. More than 90 people came to the Radisson Hotel in Portman Square to learn more about construction collaboration technologies (AKA extranets) in …

Looking forward to the NCCTP Conference tomorrow

The NCCTP‘s first conference, entitled ‘Making collaboration pay’ is being held tomorrow at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Portman Square, central London. We expect around 85 attendees at the event, and it should be a fascinating conference, combining plenary and workshop sessions. There will be speakers from national representative organisations, such as Constructing Excellence and …

Contract Journal IT survey

Contract Journal reports that ‘Four out of five construction firms plan increased IT spend’, according to a CJ study of 500 people conducted with Causeway Technologies. It gives a fairly positive view of construction’s attitude to IT, with some 79% saying their firms were increasing their IT spend. Process efficiency and compatibility with existing systems …

Construction Computing Show, first day

Met lots of familiar faces during the first day of the Construction Computing Show at the Barbican in London – not least because BIW is sharing a stand with its fellow NCCTP members. Gave a lunchtime seminar presentation with Duncan Mactear of 4Projects which seemed to go well. Pushed the NCCTP conference a bit – …

Cadweb say “Death to folders!”

There are new developments afoot at Cadweb. Its latest news release quotes extensively from an Economist Technology Quarterly article which predicts the end of the nested directories of folders and files familiar to many computer users. Instead, it seems we will have built-in powerful search engines, ‘tagged files’ and ‘smart folders’. With version 7 of …

Buildingtalk.com

I like the weekly news service from Buildingtalk.com. It’s full of the nitty-gritty of routine UK construction industry PR, with lots of press releases about products and a few about software – most of which are published free – an invaluable service to hard-pressed PR and marketing people. I recently used it to post a …

Welcome back, Nathan

My Asite bloggers post has been picked up by one of the chaps I spoke about, Nathan at Free collaboration – fresh back from India and moving house. (I have pointed out to him that his comment regarding Sainsbury’s being a former BIW client is a little inaccurate – they remain a valued BIW customer …
